Dream, Girl is my first documentary that was created by an all-woman crew, raised $100K on Kickstarter, and premiered at Obama’s White House.
The film about inspiring and ambitious female entrepreneurs had two fantastic screening events to celebrate its debut: one at the White House alongside our family, friends, cast, and crew on May 16th, and one at the Paris Theater in New York City on June 9th, which was 9 years ago yesterday!
OG members of my newsletter will remember walking the red carpet that took over 5th Ave, going to the Lower East Side for a rooftop after-party, and dancing the night away under the Manhattan stars.
I’ve had many evolutions since my Dream, Girl days—becoming a mother, moving out of Brooklyn, and stepping into my intuitive gifts. However, Dream, Girl will always hold a deeply impactful place in my life. She’s the film that brought me out into the world. She’s the film that made me dare to dream big, trust in myself, and become an artist.
It was with Dream, Girl I got to meet Oprah as part of her SuperSoul100 collective and got to be in an Apple ad which ran in my local subway station. And it’s with Dream, Girl I got to share a part of my soul with over 500+ audiences in movie theaters around the world.
Dream, Girl screened everywhere from Tajikistan, to Dubai, to Belgium, to Morocco. She was a film on a mission, and nothing brought me more excitement a decade ago than sharing the women’s stories in the film with aspiring entrepreneurs.
And this Friday, June 27th, I have the incredible privilege of representing the film again for a special screening in Normal, IL alongside Danielle Martorana, the founder of I AM Woman Networking Group.
Danielle has been hard at work curating the perfect event to bring Dream, Girl back to the big screen. I’m so honored to be a part of this incredible weekend, and I hope you’ll join me!
A Day to Remember
On the afternoon of June 9th, 2016, I remember taking the R train from Park Slope to 57th Street with the Dream, Girl team in our evening gowns. We couldn’t hide our smiling faces as we approached the marquee that read Dream, Girl for all New York to see.
Ever since that first screening, my heart still races and my eyes well with tears the moment I hear that opening music. I’m forever in awe that I get to tell these stories—and even more moved by the way audiences have made space not just for the entrepreneurs on screen, but for the quiet spark of ambition within themselves. That, to me, is the real magic of Dream, Girl.
I can’t wait to see you June 27th in IL!
