Scared About Getting a Reading? A Medium Shares Her 7 Best Tips
What I wish every client knew about readings!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve chatted with someone who says to me, “I’ve always wanted to get a reading, but I’m too scared to book the appointment.”
Even though it might feel a little intimidating, I’m here to share, as a psychic medium myself, that readings can also be awe-inspiring, confirming, magickal, and emotionally rewarding experiences if you are open to them.
First, how does a reading work exactly?
I raise my frequency and consciousness by entering a meditative state where I can connect to “Spirit.”
Then, your ancestors and guides who are in the Spirit World lower their frequency to meet me in the middle.
I’m mostly clairvoyant, so they show me images, pictures, movies, sometimes words, and information to pass on to you, “the sitter.”
Anyone can connect with their ancestors and guides! It’s just a matter of clearing their mind to do so. If you’re interested in learning more about opening up your intuitive gifts — click here to get access to Magick Lessons or click here for a free meditation to Enter Your Spirit House.
However, in case you’d rather leave talking to the dead to a practicing intuitive, here is a list of 7 things I wish every client of mine knew about the process:
I can’t read you if you don’t believe.
If you don’t think psychic mediums are real, I won’t be able to channel any information for you. It takes an open heart and mind to be able to let someone access your energy. So if you don’t believe, don’t book an appointment — I’m just going to confirm your disbelief.
I don’t know everything.
As a channel, I can get access to your ancestors, pieces of your Akashic records, and even hits about your future. But I definitely don’t know all the details or mysteries of your life just by sitting with you for one hour.
I can’t share information on something that’s veiled.
Sometimes clients ask a specific question that the universe has deemed “veiled,” which means I can’t access it. Usually, this is about a future unfolding they want you to learn for yourself.
I don’t read ancestors until they’ve been gone from the Earth realm for 6 months.
I follow Lily Dale’s general rules of mediumship, and they recommend letting a soul rest for up to six months before attempting to receive messages from them. Part of this is because it takes time for a human soul to transition into the Spirit World, and part of this is because it honors the grieving, who need time to process their loss before connecting.
I don’t do death predictions.
This one might just be specific to my work, but I don’t tell my clients about when someone will die. It’s a boundary I’ve set up with Spirit that I don’t cross as a personal preference.
I trust your interpretation more than my own.
When I’m seeing or feeling something from your ancestors and share it with you, I always believe your interpretation of the item, memory, or object over my own. For example, I had a client whose ancestor showed me a beautiful and elegant silver fountain pen. In my mind, I was thinking maybe the sitter was a writer or a history teacher because of the antique style of it. But the sitter told me her grandma would give her a literal and ornate fountain pen every year for her birthday! I do not interpret signs because what your ancestors are sending to you is personal to your memories with them.I’m not going to read you if we meet at a party.
I can feel the panic or the excitement brewing when I tell someone I read tarot or do mediumship work at a gathering. But the truth is, I’m a practicing psychic medium, and I don’t do work for free anymore! Plus, I’ve gotten accustomed to channeling in a quiet, safe, energetically open space, and parties aren’t the best environments to open a witch’s circle.
I also recommend getting a referral or recommendation from a trusted friend who has had a positive experience with that medium or psychic. The spiritual world is also a business world, so use discretion about who you let into your energy field.
Here are three RED FLAGS to clock if a medium does them during a reading:
They don’t use their real name — if they aren’t using their real name and aren’t publicly out of the broom closet, that’s a red flag they might not be a real professional.
They try to up-sell you during the session — some mediums will enter your energy field, locate a problem, and then try to up-sell you on a service, ritual, or spell. This is ethically questionable spiritual behavior, and I wouldn’t work with someone who did this.
You feel bad after the reading — mediums are like hairstylists, or therapists, or anyone else providing a service for your life. If you don’t like them, and they don’t make you feel good, move on! Your reading should be a positive and uplifting experience.
