I said to my daughters, I will die when I'm very, very old, but I will always be a part of you.
I will always be able to speak to you through the trees and the sky and you'll always be able to feel me if you want to feel me.
I will always be with you.
And it makes me emotional, as a mother, it's like I don't know a lot of things but I fucking know that.
-Georgia Wall
Greetings friends,
As the winter solstice and the holidays approach, I’ve been reflecting on meaningful ways to celebrate with my family.
And one of my favorite friends to talk to about the ways we bring intention into our lives is Georgia Wall, aka The Ceremonialist. Georgia works with folks who have unseen moments they want to commemorate, then adds in her magick by creating a ceremony that turns the event into something sacred.
In 2021 when I released my second documentary about postpartum, Year One. I struggled with our online and pandemic induced approach to distribution. I missed the events, people, and excitement that accompanied in-person screenings. After the film was released out into the world Georgia offered an incredible ceremony where artists could celebrate something they had accomplished. It was the perfect way for me to honor the work I had done, while also feeling seen and supported by other artists.
This holiday season I knew Georgia was the perfect guest to go deep on traditions, the intricacies of parenting, and the overall ritual of motherhood.
Sending you lots of light on these lingering dark days of winter.
With love from Buffalo,
Erin
